By using overlanding.tools, you agree to these terms. Please read them before you use the calculators or any other content on this site.
In Plain English
These calculators are a planning tool. They are not engineering advice. They are not legal or medical advice. They will not check your truck for you. Off-road travel can hurt or kill you. Use the numbers as a starting point. Then check the rest yourself. The long version below covers the legal terms in full.
Educational Resource — Not Professional Advice
overlanding.tools is an educational resource. Every calculator, guide, and piece of content on this site is meant to help you learn and plan. It does not replace the judgment of a qualified professional. Nothing here is engineering advice, mechanical advice, medical advice, or any other form of licensed professional guidance.
Overlanding and off-road travel involve inherently dangerous activities. Winch recoveries can fail. Tires can de-bead. Loads can shift. Electrical systems can arc. Vehicles can roll over. Fuel can run out in remote locations. Dehydration can be fatal. Our calculators produce mathematical estimates based on generalized formulas and typical values — they do not account for your specific vehicle's condition, your equipment's true load ratings, local terrain, weather, your driving skill, or the hundred other variables that determine whether a real-world outcome is safe. A number on a screen is not a safety guarantee.
Before acting on any result from this site, you must:
- Verify all specifications in your vehicle's owner manual and factory service documentation
- Consult a qualified mechanic or installer for any vehicle modification
- Confirm load ratings directly with your equipment manufacturer
- Plan remotely with local knowledge, current weather, and proper emergency preparation
- Never exceed the ratings or capabilities stated by your vehicle or equipment manufacturer
No Liability — Assumption of Risk
Short version: If you get hurt, lose money, or break something based on what a calculator says, that is on you, not on us.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, overlanding.tools, its owners, operators, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any loss, harm, or damage of any kind arising from your use of, or reliance on, this website or any of its calculators. This disclaimer applies regardless of whether the claim is based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or any other legal theory, and regardless of whether overlanding.tools was advised of the possibility of such damages.
Without limiting the foregoing, overlanding.tools expressly disclaims all liability for:
- Personal injury or death — including injuries sustained during trail recovery, winching operations, high-center situations, river crossings, or any off-road activity
- Vehicle damage or mechanical failure — including drivetrain failure, suspension damage, tire failure, roll-overs, or accidents resulting from modifications, incorrect gear ratios, incorrect tire pressure, overloading, or any other action informed by a calculator output
- Equipment failure — including winch rope or cable failure, snatch block failure, tow strap failure, battery failure, or recovery gear failure
- Electrical hazards — including fires, arcs, or damage resulting from incorrectly sized battery banks, solar systems, or wiring
- Health emergencies — including dehydration, heat stroke, hypothermia, or other conditions related to inadequate water or fuel supply planning
- Financial loss — including costs of vehicle repairs, towing, emergency services, or purchases made based on calculator recommendations
- Loss or damage to third parties — including damage to other vehicles, property, or injuries to passengers or bystanders
By using this site you acknowledge and accept that off-road and overlanding activities carry inherent risk that no calculator can eliminate, and that you are solely responsible for your own safety and the safety of those traveling with you.
